Vacancy (2012)

Archival Digital Pigment Print
20 x 30 in, Edition of 3

Vacancy is a product of Suhji's coping with what was once a tumultuous and significant relationship. It was something she wanted the world to know yet hide at the same time. Torn between her religious ideals and surrounding reality, Suhji used seedy motels in California and fantastical elements to stage her love and shame. The uncomfortable tension between the subject and the artist is apparent in every image. Their collaborative work lasted two years--and as soon as the project ended, so did their relationship.
