Umma Son (2012)

Multi Media

Umma Son is an ode to a popular kitchen glove brand in Korea named Mommy Son (Translated to “Mommy's Hand”). Intrigued by the fact that the brand defines kitchen gloves as "mommy's hands," Suhji thought of all the mothers she has known, including her own. Whether she be a stay-at-home-mom or a mom who brings home the bacon, all moms are super heroes. Playing with the fact the most female super heroes today are portrayed as sexual minxs, Suhji made super heroes out of "mommy's hands," the hands that are expected by the society to be sacrificial and the least sexual personae, especially in Korean culture.
